The Africa Channel will premiere August 1 in Washington D.C. on Comcast Digital Cable Channel 678 . This new network will debut with more than 1,600 hours of original and first-run English-language programming – from news, music, lifestyle, movies, documentaries and more – highlighting the rich and diverse cultures of Africa. With backers such as former UN Ambassador Andrew Young and NBA stars Dikembe Mutombo and Theo Ratliff, the network also boasts strong ties in Washington through its partnerships with groups such as Africare, Africa Wildlife Foundation, Sister Cities International and The Carter Center among others.
